Hey, Scout Families!
I hope you had a great summer – I know Cub Scouts would never let a little thing like a COVID lockdown get in the way of fun!
I’m so excited to welcome you back to another year of Cub Scouts at Pack 3807! We’ve made a lot of changes over the summer to make our virtual program even better. We’re going to eliminate a lot of effort on your part by packaging up a majority of the materials and supplies that you’ll need for our meetings, helping to make the process much more enjoyable and easy for you.
And, exciting news! Now that we have a better handle on how to operate during the pandemic we can bring back some classic real-life Cub Scout activities like group hiking – but we’re going to do it COVID-style, in small groups using strict social distancing and PPE guidelines to ensure everyone stays safe and healthy.
Mark your calendar! Our first virtual meeting is going to be on Sunday, September 13th at 4 pm. We’ll be building, painting and flying wood Gliders for our first ever Cub Scout Glider Derby! More details coming real soon…
A few things to note as we get close to our start date:
Visit https://www.homewoodscouting.org/costs/ for this years’ dues. Note that, based on feedback, we will no longer include a handbook as part of your dues. You are welcome to optionally purchase one on your own. Dues may now be paid entirely online. Please email if you have any questions about your dues amount.
Even though we’re scouting from home at the moment, Cub Scouts must attend every meeting in full regulation uniform. They will be graded at every meeting, and at the end of the year Cub Scouts with 90% or above compliance will receive an award. If your Scout ranked up this past year you’re required to upgrade their hat, neckerchief and slide. For your safety, to avoid having to go into the Scout Shop you may purchase these items through the pack website and we’ll have them ready for you when you come to pick up your first batch of Scouting supplies. The cost for the rank upgrade is $33 including tax.
This year, every Scout is required to recruit at least one additional scout to the pack. Recruiting helps build important life skills such as confidence and persuasion. Inviting a friend to the Glider Derby, which is essentially our “open house,” is a great way to get this requirement out of the way quickly. Use the attached flyer to send to friends by email. We’ll also be posting some graphics and videos on our Facebook page for you to share.
Finally, a huge Cub Scout “round” of applause to Den Leader Justin, who was unanimously voted in by the Pack Committee to Assistant Cubmaster. From the entire Pack, hooray and best of fortunes to you, Assistant Cubmaster Justin!
Stay tuned – lots more details to come over the next week and a half!
Yours in Scouting,
Cubmaster Matt
