Hello, Scout families!
I know most of you are already starting to plan for summer and day camp – I know we are. If you’ve thought about overnight camp, Broadcreek Memorial Scout Reservation has a really great overnight summer camp program for Cub Scouts – one of a very few in the whole country, in fact. Broadcreek is the most amazing place – it really embodies the romanticized vision of Scouting, with just about every traditional Scouting activity you could think of, all rolled up in one beautiful location.
Dave and I are still trying to get the complete details on the camp (the BAC is notoriously internet-illiterate, so there’s not anything online that describes this year’s program in more detail), but here’s what I know (and what I think I know):
– There are three different sessions this summer (plus a fourth just for Webelos), all in August.
– The sessions are two or three nights long.
– Adults attend with their scout(s). I still have to find out if scouts can attend without an adult.
– I’m pretty sure children don’t need to be scouts in order to attend, so siblings, friends can go (then you should recruit them into our pack afterwards ).
I did find the Camper’s Guide from last year, which may shed some more light: http://www.broadcreekbsa.org/openrosters/docdownload.aspx?id=182815
The program is fairly inexpensive for an overnight summer camp. Adults and children younger than Cub Scout age are discounted even further. I’m sorry there’s not more information yet, but Dave and I are endeavoring to find out more in the coming weeks.
I’m coming to you early with this not just because I don’t want you to schedule something else and miss it, but also because if those who are interested identify a session that works for all we can register as a pack and participate as a unit. Hopefully thinking about this now will give us plenty of time to consider and coordinate well before the registration deadline.
Here’s a link to the registration:
All of the info on dates and cost can be found via this link, but don’t register quite yet. Let Dave or me know if you’re interested and we’ll do the legwork.
Yours in Scouting!
