Greetings, Cub Scout parents and families!
It’s been a while since most of us have seen each other and we’re all looking forward to another great scouting year ahead! This year we’ve really put a lot of thought into how to make our virtual program the best it can be. It’s very exciting. We even have alternate plans in the event that restrictions are lifted at some point during the year and things get back to normal.
Some details you need to know about this month:
This Sunday, 9/13 is a meet-and-greet for current and future Cub Scout adults. Please join us to meet some of our new parents and get reacquainted with old ones. We’ll answer questions about this years’ program and take suggestions on what activities we can add and how we can make activities easier and more convenient for you. It will be very informative – we strongly encourage you to invite friends and neighbors that might be interested in enrolling their child in Cub Scouts.
Contact us for the Zoom meeting link.
The Wood Glider Derby has been moved to 9/27. The Wood Glider Derby is an event where contestants grades K through 5th build, decorate and race balsa gliders at home. Then, during the Derby meeting, we show off our gliders, vote on the best decorations and share our best distances. There are three heats: K – 1st, 2nd – 3rd, and 4th – 5th. The contestants with the best designs and farthest distances in each heat win. All scouts earn a patch for their brag vest. Register now – glider kit pickup is next weekend! Cost: $4 per kit.
We were originally going to have our Wood Glider Derby this Sunday the 13th, but being parents ourselves we all ended up being swamped with the launch of virtual schooling and we just weren’t able to get the program off the ground as quickly as we had hoped. We now have plenty of time to prepare.

All Cub Scouts are required to earn the Recruiter badge this year. This means they must recruit at least one new scout into the program. Scouts that recruit past certain thresholds earn great prizes that they can choose from. Inviting new parents to the meeting this Sunday and new kids to the Derby on the 27th is a great way to get the recruiter badge requirement out of the way early.
Keep an eye out – there will be a few more emails to follow over the next week with additional information about the upcoming year.
I’m looking forward to seeing you this Sunday the 13th at 4pm!
Yours in Scouting,
Cubmaster Matt
